Manchester Business School Received £15m Donation

The University of Manchester will rename the Business School after receiving a donation of £15 million from Lord David Alliance of Manchester, a British Liberal Democrat politician.

In recognition to this gift, the Manchester Business School, which will celebrate its 50th anniversary next year, will be named "Alliance Manchester Business School" from September 2015.

Lord Alliance was born and grew up in Iran. He cofounded, international textile group Coats Viyella plc (now Coats plc) and is a non-executive Director of N Brown Group, a home shopping company based in Manchester.

He has longstanding connections with the University in Manchester. He is an Honorary Fellow of the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology (UMIST) and an Honorary LLD of the Victoria University of Manchester which merged with UMIST to become the University of Manchester in 2004. He has also given donations to the institution.

The gift will be invested in Manchester Business School's new building and in research.
