The University of Southern Mississippi's College of Business will offer an MBA with an emphasis in Sports Security Management.
The new degree is aimed at professionals who work or aspire to work in management of the sport security and safety in industry.
The curriculum consists of core courses that provide managerial education across the business disciplines in functional areas such as accounting, finance and global economy and sport security management courses (threat and risk assessment applied to sport event venues, Sport Event Emergency Response Planning). They can follow courses either on-campus or online. They will gain real-world experience in the sports security management field by completing an internship provided by the National Center for Spectator Sports Safety and Security (NCS4)
NCS4 works with safety and security experts across the country from professional sports leagues (NFL, NHL, Major League Baseball, NBA, NASCAR), marathons, high schools, and colleges/universities.
Graduates can expect to go out for management positions in public safety, facility/event operations, safety and/or security at sport venues.
Although several institutions offer an MBA in sports management like Florida Atlantic University, University of South Florida, San Diego State University, University of Liverpool in UK or Audencia in France, the new Southern Miss MBA program is the first of its kind in sports security.
